About the author

Paul Chaikin is a former web developer and interactive data visualization specialist at Quanta Magazine. He began his career as a musicologist, serving on the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music from 2010 to 2015. Since pivoting to data science and computer programming, he’s created complex visualizations and dashboards for a wide variety of clients and employers, including museums, creative agencies, tech companies and consulting firms. He completed his undergraduate studies at Grinnell College and earned a Ph.D. in music at Brown University.
